The much awaited Christmas special episode of Doctor Who was somewhat sad after Matt said his goodbye. The episode title for this year’s “Doctor Who” special was “The Time of the Doctor” and in here, Matt Smith is already doing his final episode as the Time Lord after three successful seasons. It was also during this episode when we were introduced to new companions and the first chance to hear the voice of the new Doctor played by Peter Capaldi. Tears flooded during that episode and it was expected along with the inevitable comparisons to the past generations of the Who. Before that, though, we find out the meaning of the Prophecy, the origin of the Silence, and a reappearance of faces (and cracks) from Smith's first episode. The Christmas special was very special indeed as it was created with lots of twists and surprises. In here, a mysterious signal emanating from a town called Christmas endlessly repeating the question “Doctor who?” sparks a war involving many of the Doctor's old enemies, including the Cybermen and the Daleks. Of course, the Doctor tasks himself with protecting the town. A town on the planet of Tranzalore, where someday the Doctor's tomb will be. The Doctor spends the next several hundred years fighting off Daleks, Cybermen (including a cleverly low-tech wooden Cyberman), and the Silence (the creepy Munch-like aliens who, it turns out, are just confessional priests). Since Time Lords can only regenerate twelve times ,he can't just come back with a young new face. It's a beautiful and emotional send-off for Matt Smith, and a fantastic start for Capaldi. Let’s see what happens to the science-fiction adventure drama TV Series now that we have a new Doctor.
