It looks like the popularity party for the ABC Sitcom Modern Family is finally over after it lost a spot on the Top 10 List of TV Shows of the American Film Institute. The hit ABC sitcom which was always included on AFI’s top list of TV shows for the past four years was not able to make it on the 2013 list. Instead, this year's list is heavy on the drama, with cable heavy hitters like "Breaking Bad," "Mad Men," "Game of Thrones," and "The Americans" taking up most of the coveted spots. In fact, the only bona fide comedy on this year's list is HBO's "Veep." Is this the end for Modern Family? I am not actually referring to the end of the show, but what I was referring to its reputation as one of the TV series which is always included on top of the list of TV shows. You see, the show actually won the obligatory Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy last September so it was hard to understand how it happened. Right now, ratings have been slipping, with the most-recent new episode sinking 9 percent to hit a season low. Cable dramas, as well as online groundbreakers like the Netflix series "House of Cards," are dominating. Julie Bowen, who plays Claire Dunphy on the show, said that the show's writers are key to the show's success. "It really is all about the writing," she said, adding that most of the show's original writing team is still on board. "Our goal is to keep the quality up and keep knocking it out of the park. We do not want to get lazy." Modrn Family is currently airing at 9PM every Wednesday nights on ABC.
