It's the end of the world as we know it, and TV executives continue to feel fine. Never one to shy away from high concept sci-fi and fantasy programs, The CW has ordered a new apocalyptic drama pilot known as 'The Messengers.' Thankfully, 'The Messengers' is not an adaptation of the awful 2007 horror film starring 'Twilight' diva Kristen Stewart, but is instead an original conceit revolving around a group of unconnected people who, through no intention of their own, succeed in preventing (or at least delaying) an impending event of catastrophic proportions. The plot kicks into gear after an unidentified object falls down from the sky and strikes the Earth, releasing a deadly energy pulse. Those nearby (the group of strangers mentioned above) are killed by the blast, only to later find themselves mysteriously resurrected. The central characters are labeled heroes, and are informed that their actions somehow prevented the end of humanity. The question is, did they avert the apocalypse, or just delay the inevitable? Also, why were these particular people "chosen" to be a part of such a world-changing set of circumstances? Also also, do 'The 4400' have anything to do with it? Okay, that last one isn't a real question. I just miss 'The 4400.' 'The Messengers' pilot will begin production next month, and hails from writer/producer Eoghan O'Donnell (MTV's 'Teen Wolf). Stay tuned to TVRage for any further updates.
