What happened to this week’s ratings of Goldbergs and Trophy Wife? It seems like a male-skewing superhero show isn’t effective for viewers after all, or is it just because this week’s episode was just as boring as it was? It was definitely not a good idea to put a male-skewing superhero show as a lead-in to female-skewing comedies, though female-oriented comedy competition sure is. That is the logical explanation why ABC’s newly picked for a full season The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife had a double-digit decline in ratings for this week. The difference leads to Fox’s comedy block was back last night after getting pre-empted for The X Factor last week. In the previous week, The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife sealed their Back 9 pickups by holding steady (The Goldbergs) and growing 17% (Trophy Wife) despite a diminished lead-in. But last night, The Goldbergs(1.5) was down 12% to a new low, while Trophy Wife (1.2) was down 14%. S.H.I.E.L.D. was down a tenth to a new low coming back from hiatus, mirroring the impact a break had on another hot freshman drama, Fox’s Sleepy Hollow. Fox’s comedies proved more resilient to pre-emptions, returning from one on par or up. Dads (1.4) andBrooklyn Nine-Nine (1.6) were even with their last originals, while New Girl (2.0) was up 11% and The Mindy Project (1.5) up 15%. Another TV show which hit the spotlight last night was The Biggest Loser which had 2.1 ratings and The Voice with 3.3 percent. Meanwhile, NBC still won the night in 18-49, making it its longest Tuesday streak to open a season, 7 weeks. CBS’ NCIS (2.9) was down a tenth but still handily topped S.H.I.E.L.D.,NCIS: LA (3.6) was down 8%, while Person Of Interest (1.9) inched up a tenth from last week’s series low 1.8 fast national. CBS won the night in total viewers (15.1 million), paced by NCIS (19 million). The CW’s The Originals, already assured a full-season order, logged a 0.9, even with last week (it could get upward adjustment in the finals), while rising in W18-34. Supernatural (0.9) was down 18%.
