In this episode, the Roadshow is in the elegant surroundings of Eltham Palace in south London. Once the boyhood home of Henry VIII, it was extended in the 1930s by the textile magnates Stephen and Virginia Courtauld to include a striking art deco mansion. Amongst a day of extraordinary valuations, Phillip Mould finds two unknown paintings by Diego Rivera, the Marxist champion of Mexican working class culture in the 1960s. Hilary Kay is delighted to discover a collection of Gerry Anderson puppets, from Lady Penelope to Captain Scarlett, while Ronnie Archer-Morgan enthuses over a well preserved mammoth tooth. Books specialist Justin Croft discovers intriguing letters written by an army officer captured by the IRA in the 1920s, while an original newspaper printing plate rescued from Fleet Street tells the story of the first moon landings.
